Natalia, a nun from a remote Russian monastery, is sent to Moscow to organize a memorial evening for the victims of the terrorist attack that happened in October 2002 at Dubrovka Theatre. She and her family witnessed the attack. Almost forgotten now by the outside world, the organizers and participants of the memorial evening, or the Conference (as they are asked to call it), are made feel like a burden to society. Following the chronology of the events as told by the participants in the memorial evening, we learn the dark details of Natalia’s personal story.
